Ramadan: adapting your café or restaurant's menu and opening hours
Opening hours for ftour and the evening, a ftour set menu, ftour to take away with a pickup time: getting your digital menu ready for Ramadan, then back to your usual menu.
During Ramadan, a café or a restaurant changes almost everything: its hours, its menu, and the moment when everyone arrives at once. With a digital menu, these changes are made from your phone, and your guests see the right menu and the right hours as soon as they scan the QR code on the table. Here is how to get the month ready, then go back to your usual menu.
Opening hours: ftour, then the evening
Many places close during the day, open again for ftour (iftar, the meal that breaks the fast) and stay open late. In your restaurant's settings, each day of the week can have several time slots: one for ftour, another for the evening. Your menu's page shows these hours and tells guests whether you are open right now.
Do it a few days before the month begins, and write down your usual hours: you will put them back at the end.
The menu: a ftour set menu
The simplest way is to add a "Ftour" category and place it first: your guests read the menu in the order of your categories. A set menu can offer a choice, the drink for instance, and extras with their prices: the guest sees exactly what it includes.
- A photo of the set menu: it is what people look at first.
- The dishes you do not serve during the month, marked "Sold out" in one tap: they stay on the menu without being orderable, and come back in one tap.
- The prices, if the set menu changes during the month: the next guest sees the new price.
- The description, written once and translated when you save it, for guests who read the menu in another language.
Ftour to take away
If your plan includes ordering to take away, your guests order from your menu's page and choose their pickup time, within the time slots you open. You set the delay before the first pickup, so that nobody orders for five minutes from now, and the time at which pickups stop before closing. Each order arrives with its pickup time: as ftour approaches, the kitchen knows when each one must be ready.
After Ramadan
- put your usual hours back;
- remove the "Ftour" category, or keep it for next year by marking its dishes "Sold out";
- put back on sale the dishes set aside during the month.
Nothing needs reprinting: the QR code on each table stays the same, it is the menu behind it that changes. If you also welcome visitors from abroad, here is how to prepare a menu for tourists.
